Textile Tales

Artlink invited artists Bryony and Musarat Raza to develop and facilitate a 12 week collaborative project with elderly participants from Feel Good Factor and Touchstone Sikh Elders

The sessions encouraged social interaction, learning new skills, increasing confidence, improving wellbeing as well as learning about each others cultures. During the project we explored stories, myths, legends and personal tales within our cultures and found interesting ways of sharing and retelling these stories through a variety of textile techniques such as embroidery, wax resist, batik, felt making, sound recording, singing and map making. The project culminated in a group exhibition at Artlink.

“It’s been great to get out of the house and make new friends, I appreciate this when I live on my own. I have improved my manual skills and my ability to be patient with others and work in a large group.” Workshop participant
